Cossor Melody Maker spotted on Gumtree - 1928?
Spotted on gumtree in Dunmow, Essex at £40:
https://www.gumtree.com/p/antiques/v...ars/1210948418 Looks like about 1928 to me but I am not an expert. Hope that I have not breached the forum rules. |

Hi Gents, that looks like the earlier model with the larger coil.
Usually a simple set to fix, but the I/V transformer almost certainly has an o/c winding. this would need a rewind. Ed |

It's the BK229
The second Melody Maker with plug in coils http://www.cossor.co.uk/the-early-kit-sets The coupling transformer is as Ed says likely to have an OC secondary. Cheers Mike T

Hi Mike, thanks for the link, some useful data there. I think I now need to look for some more sets.
The mains versions seem quite rare, do you know if many were produced? Ed |

Re: Cossor Melody Maker spotted on Gumtree - 1928?
Hi Ed
Cossor Made various claims but one that appears consistently is that at the time the 234 was released they had sold 350,000 Melody Makers. On the documentation of the BK631 it claims 250,000 Melody Maker sets in "daily use" The Metal cased sets (BK4, BK530, BK631) after the BK229 are pretty rare probably the least common sets. I have only ever come across 2 of the MK530's and parts from one other. I don't even have an example and as far as I remember in 40 years of collecting I have never seen a BK631. I see a lot of these kit sets and I see around 8 to 10 234's for every 235 There is a 235 for Sale at the moment (listed as a Mains Empire Melody Maker). The 234 seems to be the most common set surviving today I see more of them than any other model, I think I have 5 or 6 examples and I don't even give them a second look anymore. The BK229 itself turns up at a rate of around 5 to 10 a year usually about the same condition as the one in this thread. Cheers Mike T

Hi Mike, I'd seen their claim for a large number of kit sets sold/ produced and always thought there were referring to the 234/ 235.
