Weller EC1201A 40W Soldering Iron Bit Replacment
Does anyone know how to replace the bit in this iron?
I can unscrew and remove the outer barrel to get access to the bit. However, if I try to pull the bit out it feels as if it's attached to a spring. I don't want to break it. It looks similar to the attached photo. |

Re: Weller EC1201A 40W Soldering Iron Bit Replacment
I think it has a thermistor inside the bit and these have become stuck together.
Better to take out the screws between element and handle then you can see the thermistor body. Hopefully you can draw both bit and thermistor apart to separate them. At the moment pulling the bit is moving the thermistor against the spring inside. They might part but being able to hold both ends will enable you to "work it" apart. It is pictured quite nicely here https://softsolder.com/2011/12/14/we...andle-failure/ Last edited by Jon_G4MDC; 17th Feb 2020 at 5:58 pm. |

I have some documents relating to these units but the only reference I can find to tip removal is shown in the attached image. At least shows that you are right to be cautious.

Re: Weller EC1201A 40W Soldering Iron Bit Replacment
The attached technical sheet refers to a slightly different, but similar, model of Weller electronically controlled soldering system. The last two pages describe the procedure for dismantling the iron with an exploded view. Hope this helps.
