Default Philips 371a

Can any one tell me if the 2 knobs on the front of a Philips 371a are flush with the front of the cabinet and if the shaft of the knobs protrude thorugh the chassis to the inside of the cabinet ?

Cheers

Hi i am sure the knobs have extensions ,a tell tail sign is if there is a hole under the cabinet to give access to the screws, regards Mick.

Hi Mick, thats my thought but there are no access holes in the bottom of the cabinet. If the grub screws where on the inside of the cabinet i cant see how you could gain access to them. Also the holes in the cabned where the switch shafts protrude are quite small and I doubt the shaft of a knob would fit through the hole.

I had a second thought that maybe the front knobs are a push fit

Hello,

ISTR the ones on mine were held on with grub screws accesible through holes in the knobs. They looked a bit odd though, as if they should have sat more flush with the cabinet, so I'm not sure they were original.

Nick.

Hello Benjamin,

Pic the front knobs on my Philips 371A taken from underneath, and it's an original set so they should be correct.

Many thanks Howard, I have just sourced 3 knobs that where missing. Tone,Volume and tuning. The tone one fits perfectly but the other two have a long shaft on them.

I will have to carefully cut them down, drill and re-tap a grup screw hole.

Those long ones will probably have been from a 462A where the knobs were fitted on the side. As you have noted, the 371A has the short version fitted to the front. Worth persevering, as these are great looking sets.
