Identification/dates help
Hello,
I'm new here, already reading through the past forum posts has been a great help but I wanted to check whether anyone could help me... I'm trying to identify a large collection of equipment, mostly televisions with some video/laserdisc etc. The early equipment is quite simple to date but anything past 1950 I'm struggling get dates for. It's mostly Ferguson but there are some others. If anyone knows the dates for any of the equipment below that'd help me out massively. Television Ferguson 969T 454T 4636 3444 3845 3847 (1978?) Courier/3805 37146 38030 3709 6830 37063 V593B 51J8 59HB 59H5 66B2 C210PF 22D2 3821 3696 Ultra CM1705 6700 6175 6803 6814 6713 HMV 2711 2841 2809 Baird 8749 Sony KV1330UB RGD B6351 Video Ferguson 3432 3V23 (1982?) 3V01A 3V55 FV12L 3292 Baird TB6083 Thorn 8945 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder Ferguson 3204 Laserdisc Ferguson 3D01 Satellite Ferguson 6RD6 TDM1 Videocamera Ferguson 3629 Thanks for your help! |

Re: Identification/dates help
It's worth checking with Radiomuseum:
Sample: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/ferguson_454t.html There's usually a date, though it can be unreliable. Not all of your list is there, though.

Re: Identification/dates help
That's quite a list! Most are from the 1970s - I'll fill in a few dates and details for the models I know about, but some had a long production run and were available for several years, so the year may not be exact for your set.
Television Ferguson 969T 454T 4636 3444 3845 3847 (1978?) - you're right I reckon (14"`mains/battery portable) Courier/3805 - 1971 valve portable, mains only 37146 38030 - 1985 B/W portable, appears in that year's Argos catalogue 3709 - 1972 Thorn 3000 chassis "Colourstar" TV 6830 37063 V593B 51J8 59HB 59H5 66B2 C210PF 22D2 3821 - 1973 Thorn 1500 chassis B/W valve TV, plastic cabinet with printed wood effect 3696 Ultra CM1705 6700 - 1971 Thorn 3000 chassis "Bermuda Colour" TV 6175 6803 - 1972 Thorn 1500 chassis B/W valve TV, semi-portable 6814 6713 HMV 2711 2841 2809 - 1973 Thorn 1500 chassis B/W valve TV Baird 8749 Sony KV1330UB - 1974 colour TV with rotary UHF tuner RGD B6351 Video Ferguson 3432 3V23 (1982?) 3V01A - 1980 ? 3V55 FV12L 3292 - 1978 "Videostar" , their first ever VHS model Baird TB6083 Thorn 8945 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder Ferguson 3204 Laserdisc Ferguson 3D01 - c. 1982 Satellite Ferguson 6RD6 TDM1 Videocamera Ferguson 3629 - ?? This is the model number of the "Personal" dual-standard TV from 1965 Here's a general guide to model numbers from Ferguson, Ultra, HMV and other Thorn brands in the 1970s. The model number was 4 digits long and started with 3 for Ferguson, 2 for HMV, 4 for Marconiphone, 6 for Ultra and 8 for Baird (Radio Rentals) The next digit determined the type of set. (xx = any two numbers) so model number 36xx = Ferguson dual standard B/W TV 37xx = Ferguson single standard colour TV 38xx = Ferguson single standard B/W TV ,e.g. models 3805, 3821 above 3Vxx = Ferguson VHS video recorder 67xx = Ultra single standard colour TV 68xx = Ultra single standard B/W TV , e.g. model 6803 above Not a hard and fast rule, but if the last digit is an odd number, the set often contains valves; an even number and the set is usually all-transistor. Note however that all the Thorn / Ferguson colour TVs were all-transistor - they never made a colour TV with valves. |

Re: Identification/dates help
In case of doubt, it is always possible to take the back off and look at date codes on components.

Re: Identification/dates help
That ferguson 3204 reel to reel is from 1966 ISTR
The 3V55 came out in 1987 (88 at a pinch)

Re: Identification/dates help
Thanks for the help everyone. Very pleased to find out the 3292 Videostar is the first model and figuring out the numbering system is useful.
Heathercathodeshort - this isn't my collection unfortunately, I am doing some work on another collection and trying to figure out the chronological order of the items, also doing it remotely for the most part but pleased to see a lot of info available online. |

Re: Identification/dates help
I have the 3V55 and I would say that it was 1986 as that's the date on internal components.
