Re: Ferranti T1002F
As i stated long ago some where a Thorn 950 smoothing cap (bomb) failed in a D.E.R showroom where i worked and split the cabinet.
Do not remember it being very old.

Re: Ferranti T1002F
When investigating any vision AGC faults on these Ekco TV sets the prime suspect is always C7 inside the tuner unit. Along with the smoothing capacitor C7 will be replaced today. The chassis is to be pulled out of the cabinet to get at various other components.

Re: Ferranti T1002F
The AGC decoupler capactor C7 (0.1mfd) was down to a 5Kohms leak. Absolutely useless.

Re: Ferranti T1002F
Lots of hi-viz capacitors were needed to sort out the problems in this chassis.
Frame timebase strangenessness. Faulty 30P12 frame output valve or possibly the valve is over biased? Let's find out. DFWB. |

Re: Ferranti T1002F
The valve was over biased. 15 volts negative was present at the control grid of the 30P12. C101 was found to be leaky. It's 0.25mfd in some sets. In the Ferranti it is 0.1mfd. The faulty capacitor was a TCC "Visconol" 350 volt component. Replaced by another Hi-viz capacitor.
The AGC is working properly and the line sync has also improved. That dodgy HT smoothing capacitor was replaced by a NOS 100 + 200 +16 mfd can. DFWB. |

Re: Ferranti T1002F
Hi Robin and Brian,
That's the picture quality one can expect from the these late fifties Ekco and Ferranti TVs. Although big and boxy the Ekco T330 and the similar Ferranti T1002 were well liked by the viewing public. Even the introduction of the "slimline" sets in late 1959 didn't sway owners of these sets to go out and buy a new set. In fact many of these sets were still in use right up to the end of the sixties. My favourite Ekco TV was the 21" bow fronted console model. The controls were located on the right side of the cabinet. DFWB. |

Re: Ferranti T1002F
Great picture, Ekco sets always work well once sorted. Lots of caps to change in these though. I must get my TC208 back on the bench soon, I had first light and all looks good, but the cabinet is a bit rough
