ID a wartime aircraft radio?
Dennis Hoy picked up this radio from a recent house auction, we think it came out of a Lancaster bomber but thats about as far as our knowledge goes. Any help gratefully received.

Re: ID a wartime aircraft radio?
That is a somewhat battered and modified R1155A. This early model is more likely to have been used in a Halifax bomber.

Re: ID a wartime aircraft radio?
My 1st Radio for HF in 1966 R1155 ( I was in Primary school and the Radio nearly as big as I)
But it looks a little sad. No doubt could be sorted. |

Cheers gents. Subsequent googling with the model number has opened up a veritable trove of information.

Re: ID a wartime aircraft radio?
Certainly been got at, but could indeed be restored somewhat. I would say.

Re: ID a wartime aircraft radio?
I think the amount of effort required for restoration may be too much when compared to that needed for other projects waiting in the sidelines. For what was paid in the auction, it could provide a source of useful bits for other projects.
This particular auction has radios and various bits of test equipment most weeks for £5 or less and this seems to be an easy way to acquire plenty of spare parts cheaply. We eagerly await to see what Wednesday will bring us this week! |
