Marantz CD-63 KI Signature dead
Hi all
i think this player may qualify for vintage as its around 25 years old i stored it away about 7 years ago in a warmish place, it was working at that point, not that it matters it was in its original box. i have recently got it out of storage and found that is is dead, no switch on. its mint inside, there is no sign of any damaged caps and from what i have learned, rather posh ones were used in this model. the 2 fuses are undamaged. i did notice that when power is applied a little movement comes from a disc above the laser it also moves a little when unit is switched off. i do have copy of maintenance manual but mostly covers plain 63 model. i have replaced plug and lead to no difference, i have made some checks with meter, info will be given in next post if needed. quite strange as i also brought a pioneer av amp which has been stored for about 10 years, its of 1993 vintage and it works no problem. any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated |

Sounds like a PSU fault. I have a Ki and non-Ki for spares and in one of these (can't remember which) one of the regulators failed (and I think it was 5V).

HI, yes thats a good point, ive had a little experience with those in a radio before, actually there was only one in that case.
looks like there could be two in this machine, not sure, will test it or them in the coming days and report back regards |

Thanks friend, you were on the money
5v regulator had 0.3v output, jrc 7805a, installed a new one and she's working folks ! not very good heat dissapation prospects for it by the looks of things. thinking about putting a little thermal compound on it, there was none as factory spec, as all original. |

Despite the age and complexity, it is fascinating that most failures still seem to be 'stock faults'. Good to hear it's fixed.
