Hi guys i am a huge an of video tape formats of any kind i have lots of vcr's. betamax, v2000, vhs, umatic, and beta sp. and was wanting to get a digi beta as i have lots of x studio tapes i picked up years ago but never could watch them. so i look on ebay and there v expensive i found a chap on there selling some that where faulty. so i jumped in the car and heeded out to leeds. grabbed the 2 faulty ones he had. 1 was power on nothing else the other was just chucking out error after error.

i decided to fix the one that was cosmetically better. tho both where not in good shape. i was trying to figer out what was wrong with the player and i was missing a cpu board lucky the other player still had the board in it. unforchantly there was a sticker on the back of it saying it was faulty. after some hrs on the net i figured out that it was the time keeping chip (DS1643-150) wich has a battery in it that had gone bad the chip was swollen so i took an exsacto knife and cut in to the area and removed the battery. (I forgot to take photos of this step sorry). now the only error after i was poking around was 96 the error of the bios been flat the DS1643-150 been the issue there i have its replacement on the way from china.

now i moved on to the drive mech striped it all cleaned greased and took the better pinch roller and get out of the 2 players to the one i was keeping. gave it all a test and looked good.

fixed switches and cp so all the buttons now work and light up and sorted out the left handle of the cp tray

now put all back together and working fine only issue is the clock and tbc wont work untill the DS1643-150 is fitted but i am going to socket that when it comes in case i have to replace it again

Hi, this looks interesting! Just a thought regarding the chip with the battery in it, could it be possible to mount a replacement battery somewhere? Something like a 3v lithium coin cell as found on PC motherboards? Might be easier than having to replace the whole chip every time the battery goes flat! That's if it is 3v.

I did try this fix but it's 5v. Did the same thing with the time keeper on one of my cdi Philips player consoles.
