Default Limit 1950s fan restoration questions

I have recently purchased a 1950s Limit fan and am after a little advice on restoring it. What is the best thing to use to clean the cage and blades, I was thinking wire wool? Also I want to strip it down and degrease it and oil/grease it, what kind of oil/grease should I use? Do you need to have an earth wire on it as the wire on it currently only has live and neutral?

Someone just did a restoration on a similar model Limit fan, a short while ago. I don't remember what heading it was under.
