The power lamp in most Tek scopes of this generation (including 7000 series) are like the air conditioning in a car. During build, paint the chassis, put in air conditioning and then build the rest of the car around it.

The power lamp in my 475 is also gone, and I have no strong urge to replace it for that reason.

So in that case it can stay like it is, you would have thought that with an incandecent bulb being basically a consumable item they would of made it easier to get to! Anyhow just one last question, the serial number on mine is 100919 any idea what model this is?

Just looked at my 454 - the right hand side panel comes off with a screw at the rear and a circlip on the hinge pin at the front. But then you have to remove the nut holding the power on light, might be doable with angled pliers but I am happy that I haven't had to try yet.

These were a great range of scopes, I have a 454A and you can see single shot traces even when the timebase is very fast. Outperforms many other later Tek scopes.

Yes - they were before the expansion mesh CRT's in later Tek scopes, so the trace is pin-sharp.

There is a 1967 Tektronix promotional film about manufacture of CRT's here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0Dci5RPe94

The final shots are of the finished CRT going into a 400-series scope.
