It looks like a crystal marker (heterodyne job) to calibrate a signal source?

Thought it was for a source rather than being a source itself, perhaps have to max the magic eye. Can't find manual etc.

I was thinking Xtal osc inside the unit heterodyning at fundamental (or harmonics of) with a signal source (RF in)
