I don't think so, a doubler with double size caps on a double current sized transformer is much the same as a single size cap and transformer. It can be shown that a simple (two half wave in series) doubler is equivalent to a full wave bridge, caps twice the size half the volts etc. you also win two diode drops of volts too.
