Default RF-10 Czech Republic Radio Not Working

Hello,

I just purchased an RF-10 transceiver. It is not receiveing nor transmitting but the audio amplifier is working ok. I think the problem might be in the frequency synthesizer since its not a matter of lack of power or lack of sensitivity, it simply not receiving and not transmitting at all.

Does anyone have experience with fixing this radio or could let me know where I could get its schematic diagram? the block diagram that came with the radio is unreadable both because of the type of print as well as the language.

Thank you very much.

Thank you Johanbee.

I have located the problem to be the inverter printed circuit board, it had two bad transistors which I changed but I still can't get it to produce the + and - 50V and the 13V. It is producing just + - 20V and 8V. The transistors are not switching on completely. If any one has had a similar problem or has one of these boards for sale please let me know.

Could this be a similar case to what we see in Clansman switching supplies of the same era - a case of 'tantalum disease'? It might be worth checking the leakage of any tantalum capacitors in the inverter circuit.

As well as the common failure of the large tantalums in the Clansman PSUs, I've seen smaller ones dead short in the smaller regulators in some sets (notably the PRC344).

The RF10 is of a similar era and I'd expect of a similar architecture.

Thank you for your reply Martin. I already changed the bigger capacitors but will check the smaller ones also.

Good luck with it. I keep looking at the RF10, quite tempted, but still trying to complete my clansman manpack collection first! (and getting sidetracked with SARBE and RDF kit!)

Succumb to temptation! They're a lovely little set.

Hmmm, we'll see! Ive already spent far, far too much this past week on radio! Full RF-10 sets seem to go for about £75, which would also buy me the last clansman antenna I need (VHF inv V)

Maybe if I can turn a profit on the 90+ excess IR cyalumes ive acquired...
