Re: Eddystone 358X
To complete this thread for those who are interested in the 358X, renovations are now complete. The set works well with its new red EF39s stolen from a PCR set (now getting along on 6J7s). Purists will not like the fact that all original passive components have been flung out and new ones fitted in their place. The output stage has also been rewired for a 6V6 with reduced anode current.
Lawrence - the noise limiter has been refitted (after the attached photo was taken). It removes the pain from impulse noise in the headphones from e.g. fluorescent light on/off, but does not markedly reduce the actual presence of such noise. The twin-crystal filter gives true single-signal performance on CW when C64 on the back of the filter unit is carefully adjusted. The response seems to be broader than the single-crystal filter fitted to the HRO. MF broadcast band and the 7 Mc/s coil units are working well so all that remains is to sort out the remaining eight. So - an interesting set that will have good use along with the HROs and the BC348 - not bad for £25. Best wishes - Peter |
