McMichael 135 lid light wanted
I have just bought a McMichael 135 radio but I notice that it doesn't have its lid light assembly. Does anyone have a scrap one of these?

Re: McMichael 135 lid light wanted
Hi Chris. If you can get somebody to measure one up for you they aren't hard to replicate - a short section of pipe with a slot cut in the side using an angle grinder to let the light come out and an MES bulb & socket pushed into one end of the pipe with a bung. I used to have a 135, 137 and 138 but they all had to go when I moved to a smaller house! Sorry, no spares. Cheers, Jerry

Re: McMichael 135 lid light wanted
Attached is a sketch drawn from memory of the McMichael 135 lid light. It is made from a metal tube (possibly brass) with a slot cut out of one side for the light to come out to illuminate the dial below. The opposite side has a small hole drilled to allow light to come out the other side to back-light the McMichael lion symbol through a hole in the lid edge. The light is supplied with 4v AC via 2 wires coming up via the lid prop stay slot on the left hand side of the top board. The original design had one wire connected via one end-bung onto the pip of a 4.5v MES bulb. The outer screw case connection of the bulb was connected to the metal spring clip that holds the bung in place and thence via the brass tube to the bung at the other end which was connected to the other 4v wire. Poor design - as there was inevitably a bad connection between the spring clips and the brass tube such that the light always flickered annoyingly. If making a replica it would be better to connect both wires directly to the MES bulb holder at one end. Finally there was a plastic (celluloid?) inner tube that wrapped around the bulb inside the tube with a hole in it opposite the bulb filament (not shown on the sketch). There were 2 bungs one in each end with battery-style knurled brass round nuts that secured the lamps assembly's protruding end screws to u-shaped receptacles attached to the lid. The 4v supply was soldered to the u-shaped receptacles. If anybody can post an image this would be a much clearer! Cheers, Jerry
