dont forget the American midget sets. I am lucky in having an american wife so can move there in around 5 years. I had thought of shipping a TV over but the cost of the shipping is rediculous

Fascinating!

I don't know a great deal about American TV sets - except for the small technical issue of their typical PSU arrangements: heaters wired in parallel and a mains transformer - unlike the UK & European arrangement (240v versus 115v mains supplies).

However, one thing I did pick up on was that the style of the cabinetry / ergonomics is very similar to that of American Amateur Radio equipment of that period (something that I am familiar with). To me, there is a distinct look of thoroughness, functionality and engineering quality - and without jeopardising the intrinsic appeal of the cabinet, etc. in each. I see the same style in USA cars & architecture of that period, too - but then this is all as perceived by my eyes. Others may disagree.

If I was 40 years younger, I'd be off like a shot! I can think of many other reasons that would induce me. But this isn't the place to go into that.
