Default Racal ICR40.

Hi there.

I have one of these from a property clearance, does anyone have any info on it? Looks fantastic in a retro way.

Cheers for any info.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Any chance of a picture of this tape recorder?

This is a multi-channel analogue speech logging recorder, used by emergency services, ATC and the like. Speed 15/32 ips, if memory serves.

ICR - International Communications Recorder. This is a 1" 40-channel logger introduced c.1972 for standard GPO frames. Usually 8" NAB spools but depended on application. More commonly found as 32-channel, but also 8-, 1/2" 20-channel and even 64-channel. Technology later made them redundant and most had been redundant early in the new millennium.

These and Racal-Thermionic's other decks' development are covered in my 'A Truvox product' history.
