Amateur Radio - Lighthouse Weekend - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Just to say that the 8th International Lighthouse Weekend takes place this weekend (15th and 16th of August) and that amateur radio operators will be transmitting across the world from lighthouse stations.
Lighthouses with radio amateurs taking part so far include:
Leasowe Lighthouse, Wirral (both days)
South Foreland Lighthouse, Kent (both days)
Smeatons Lighthouse, Plymouth (Saturday only)

I shall be on duty at Hurst Castle on The Solent on Saturday where both the ALK and Trinity House have permanent displays of signalling equipment.

I had a look at the linked site (Very interesting) but I couldn't see a list of the operating frequencies.

Is there one as this might be useful to those of us intending to have a listen.

(I might have missed it of course as senility is creeping in!)

Believe its all HF bands

No, it does not appear to mention frequencies, probably safe to assume HF as David says.

Lighthouses, eh? Very tall buildings, good RF earth . . . sounds ideal for a quarter-wave vertical on 80m - or possibly Top-band!

It's a world wide event so it pretty well has to be on all bands.

there's a bit more information in some cases. One's doing QRP on 40 meters for instance, another states 160 to 2 metres.

Definitely worth listening in to.

Just took a quick listen on 40 metres. Lots of German stations. All SSB. Shame there's no AM

On Saturday I heard many lighthouse radios on 80m. So a good effort seems to have been made to get sites on the air.

Seems to have been a very busy weekend over the airwaves with many more lighthouse stations taking part than first thought. This annual event is becoming very well established. So good that you were able to "listen in".

Here in Holland I received Scarborough, Dover and the Eshaness Shetland Lighthouse and of course on my B40's.
