Stellaphone 458 issues
This machine has a few parts missing, which is making it difficult to repair (I don't have any service information).
1. The wind & rewind are inoperative for different reasons: - FF: no pressure on the half-hidden brown rubber-covered wheel to the top of the photo: an adjustable arm (marked) has a couple of holes in a vertical folded flap but nothing attached. Spring missing? - Rewind: belt has turned to obnoxious black grease. The operation of this seems to rely on the aluminium idler having the belt in place on its periphery and them being pushed into contact with the motor shaft (so kind of driven on the outside). Does anyone have details of this belt? The "grooves" appear to be c 3.5mm wide and c 1mm deep. 2. Something missing from the end of a control rod (threaded?) LHS on photo 3. The speed control is set to 1 but the spindle is seized, and the belt is on the fast motor pulley. Not sure if this mechanism is as it should be? Any advice much appreciated. Re: Stellaphone 458 issues
Hi,
The part which is marked "nut missing" is some sort of remote pause control which possibly uses a flexible bowden cable. I have a Philips tape recorder with the same thing. There is nothing missing and the threaded shaft will align with a hole in the rear of the case. (Stellas are badge engineered Philips's). The gooey remains of the belt can be dissolved away by soaking the affected parts in brake fluid overnight. It's a VERY messy job and the black goo will mark clothes & carpets permanently (heed the voice of experience!) Sorry I can't help further. Cheers, Pete

Re: Stellaphone 458 issues
Many thanks Pete. That's sorted one query.
Does anyone know where I could get hold of the service information? John |
