Bush MB60 sound
hi all
recently bought a restored bush mb60 radio which i am really pleased with apart from the sound which i would say is a bit tinny when compared to the later tr82 radio which i also have which has a much nicer tone,is this normal for this model having never heard one before ? as i always thought valve sets gave a better sound. thanks laurie |

Re: Bush MB60 sound
It would be quite hard for a battery valve set to create a full sound compared to it's mains equivalent given the output valve has low voltages on it.
The wattage is somewhere in the region of 0.5 to 1 watt output, the manufacturers could change the sound by means of capacitors on the output tranny but that would reduce the output further. The sound is fairly bright but it sounds better than having to put up with OTT rumble found on large speaker mains sets.

Re: Bush MB60 sound
The manufacturer gives the MB60 output as 100mW it has a single DL96 in class A. (Max 200mW according to Mullard).
It sounds better than many battery sets (although it can operate on mains its really just a battery set with a built-in eliminator) due a decent size cabinet and loudspeaker. The TR82 depending on output stage etc is 200mW or 325mW and with a fresh battery maybe a wee bit more I suspect. I suspect Bush conservatively rated both the MB60 and the TR82. As a pure design I prefer the MB60 for day to day convenience the TR82. Cheers Mike T

Re: Bush MB60 sound
Thanks for clarifying the output wattage, I knew it was not very high output but could not remember exactly what it was.
