New Toy. Megger Series 3 MkIII.
Morning all,
I was recently given this little beauty. Almost brand new condition, complete with case and instructions. It has one small problem!!, the "tiny " fuse is blown. I need a couple or five new ones. The slide switch that changes from Ohms to Leakage is VERY stiff. Any recommendations on a fix ? Pics "as received ", along with a PDF of the instruction sheet. Joe |

Re: New Toy
Can you show/measure the fuse?
I might have some here. Re switch if it was greased at the time of manufacture, then likely that has gummed up and needs to be cleaned out |

Re: New Toy
I've got one of the little bakelite "Wee Meggers" in the attic. This is a simpler one and lacks the continuity range and that slide switch. It's only a 250v tester, so not sufficient for UK wiring regs tests, but useful for capacitors.
I don't see the voltage marked on yours, Joe, but I assume 250v. David

Re: New Toy
Thanks Terry,
I have a fair collection of fuses myself. NOT this one though, especially in 100 mA rating. My vernier cost me many hundreds of bucks 45 years ago. They are still in impeccable order. 9.75mm diameter. 16.55 length. Printing on the fuse itself is: BL 100 mA It measures at 1.7 pF, so its open for sure. Thanks in advance for looking. Joe |

Re: New Toy
David,
It's 500 volts and the "generator " still works, although somewhat stiff if I remember correctly from dad's 500 volt/1000 volt unit about 3 times the size and pointy at both ends. ( There is a current thread of a very corroded one at present, same as Dad's ). I don't want to pull it down unless I can do "everything " in one go. Otherwise is "tonother gunna-do " stacked up somewhere. Joe |

Re: New Toy
Not the cheapest Joe, but these look like the originals - part number might help:

Re: New Toy
Joe's looks like a later version of my Duplex Megger, same principle but centre scale is either 1 ohm or 1 meg. There's one similar (to mine) for sale online, and the vendor admits the switch is stiff....so maybe it's a thing with these.
I can appreciate wanting to only open the case once, if the scale plate has to come off for access you have to keep a sharp eye out for dinging the (constantly wandering) needle. Dave |

Re: New Toy
Is this fuse the old 5/8 inch size ? I have some glass 500mA and 2.5A that you’re welcome to if they’re any use.

Ok, I'll have a look in the morning - no lights in the shed at the moment.

Re: New Toy. Megger Series 3 MkIII.
Dave,
If the scaleplate has to come off, its staying intact!!. It actually doesnt need come apart as yet. The megger works, and thats the bit Im most interested in. My current megger is a magazine cover project from 40 or 50 years ago. It works OK but I have never really "trusted " it. Goldie, Twice the price for shipping, what "import charges " are I have no idea. If nothing comes to light I might well have to pay that much. Just converted it: 20.22 GBP = 35.85 AUD Thanks Ken, I think they are somewhat large for purpose. Thanks for looking. Joe |

Finally managed to fight my way in to the shed.
Don't have the right length fuse sorry mine are 4.75 x 19.8 If you don't mind glass ones https://www.wagneronline.com.au/sgb-...onents/248/fl/ |

Thanks Terry.
Wagner is also known as wescomponents.com, as you well know. When I closed up shop I "surrenderd " my TFN. They closed my account accordingly. I used drive across Sydney to deal with them well over 40 years ago. Thats for looking. Joe |
