Default 'Hawesside' exchange

Whilst you are all sat at home twiddling your thumbs and wondering what to do?

Has anyone any idea of what the dialling code to reach a 'relief' exchange known as 'Hawesside' was. It was in service from mid August 1974 until the lines were moved onto Southport (0704) exchange on 19th November 1974 to become 'Southport' numbers. 'Southport' main exchange was converted to a new K1 crossbar exchange on that day from a Non Director exchange. Also was 'Hawesside' a 'Mobile Non-Director eXchange' or another type of mobile exchange and did it have three or four digit numbers? The relief exchange took its name from the road that Southport ATE is located in - 'Hawesside Street'.

The May 1974 Preston area Telephone Directory mentions that a supplement to the directory will be issued to all subscribers when the new K1 exchange at Southport opens. In 1974 Southport had four and five digit numbers on the exchange. By November 1975 directory, Southport numbers were all five digits starting with 2, 3, 4, 6 or 7 some of which were allocated to the several satellite exchanges with 'Southport' numbers .
