Strad PW 461 Dial Glass problems - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Hi all.

Some of you might have seen my YouTube video of the Strad I'm working on and everything is going well except for the dial face of the radio. Mine has some severe flaking off of the markings and is extremely dirty. I'll try and attach photos here...

My question is, does anyone have a scan of a dial face that I can either make waterslides from or a transparency that I can fit behind some plain glass or acrylic?

The ideal would be a perfect replacement glass that I could buy but radio daze doesn't stock it and doesn't do custom work now.

I know I'm asking the earth but if anyone can help I'd be grateful.

Hi I found one of these boot sale £15 , did you source a dial or copy for it as the dial on mine is pretty shot? Thanks Ricky

I'm afraid the best I have is a photograph, I didn't want to risk any accidents by removing the one I was working on as it was a friend's set.

This image is only 180kB, but I have a 2.2MB version, that I could PM if it's any use.

Hello Ricky,

Send me your email address via this site's Private Messaging (PM) system, (don't put it in this thread) and I'll try to remember to get the file over to you today.

Sadly, it's the same shot from pretty much the same angle, but might help with measurements and fonts if you wanted to try and re-create some artwork from scratch. There are a few ideas on the forum about re-creating dial artwork with Water-slide transfers or getting custom stickers made. Here's somewhere to start:

There's some useful (but quite old) information on graphics packages to use, but the requirement for this A22 dial is to end-up with opaque cream 'glass' rather than the clear glass you need.

Sorry I don't have a scan available, that would be much easier for you, but transporting the glass to work to use their scanner would have been too risky for me!
