Suitable high voltage sealant for tripler Rebuild?
Seeking some advice from more knowledgeable people here, i may have to rebuild a tripler for the thorn 2k, the problem is sealing it up afterwards, back in the day this was a jelly like substance that could be easily scraped out if further work was needed, does anyone know of a suitable product that can withstand kigh voltages yet can be easily undone like the original material, all i know for certain is acetyl cured silicone is not suitable, there is a product called silcoset but the cost is horrific for one small job.

Re: suitable high voltage sealant for tripler bebuild
There are some silicone's that don't give off an acidic gas as they cure. I needed some years ago and it was a 'all weather' type that I found OK. To test I would put some of the silicone along with a piece of copper wire into a zip lock bag and leave for a few days. If it gave off an acidic gas the copper would turn green. You could almost tell by the smell they give off as they cure.

More generally, they're called 'neutral cure' silicones

Used for sealing underground cables after splicing two pack 'Scotchcast Resin 8882 '
can be broken into in the future to say re-route the cable. About the cheapest (of it's type)around at approx £20 Last edited by cheerfulcharlie; 18th Jul 2019 at 8:03 pm. |

Many thanks for the info, surprisingly enough using neutral cure silicone as the key search word brought up a lot more than the usual bath sealant, just shows you have to know what you're looking for.
