Champion Minuet 832 Valve radio - restoration tips?
Hi chaps,
I've recently got one of these Champion Minuet 832 radios here which I'd like to restore to working order. [It is the version with the US valve set, 35Z4, 35L6, 6BJ6, 6CH6] It's tidy in appearance but missing it's volume knob, tuning knob/dial which I can hunt for after it's functional. I see some old caps in it which look like they ought to be replaced (old 0.1uf 350V waxies etc) which is the only thing I plan to do.. I wonder if there are any other common issues with this set? Has anyone here got any experience/advice, tips on this model? Thanks for any help whiskas |

Hi, from memory there were several sets in this range, the circuits are in the R&tv books and probably also through the forum service.
They normally work well on quite a short aerial and are good local station sets. Apart from waxies just do a quick check on the few resistors that sre in the sey and replace any that are well out. Ed |

Don't forget the smoothing capacitors , they do fail on some of the American midget sets . Mick.

Thanks for the tips chaps, once it's under way I'll post photos and of course any further problems encountered that I can't sort out.
It's a pretty simple set, so hopefully there won't be too many issues besides those already advised! Cheers chaps! Rob |

When I first started repairing radios around 60 years ago, that was one of the most common failures, beside valves. Reading the original post, regarding the US valve compliment, I fail to recognise the 6CH6 valve as being used in a set of this type. |

This set is on Radiomuseum
http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/champion_minuet_832.html Curious I looked to see what a 6CH6 and its a video output valve. So I quite see why usradcoll1 says that may not be the correct valve. Radiomuseum suggest it should be a 6BH6 I wonder if it got incorrectly subbed in the past? Cheers Mike T

It is a four valve TRF set. The 6BH6 is a remote cutoff valve used as a power detector. It is a circuit, used for many years in the states. The design was replaced by the four valve "short superhet". The 6CH6 was either mis-read or a typo. |
