Everay violet ray electro-therapy thingy
It worked but weakly when I recently got it but I noticed some very clean wax had escaped from the capacitor. Replaced the capacitor and I now get a pretty strong spark+ozone out of it giving an initial jolt but not much current.
Anyone got one of these as I wondered what they normally behave like as the replacement 2kV capacitor might be a bit too efficient. |

Re: Everay violet ray electro-therapy thingy
I'm not sure how to go about comparing one with another when they're in different places in the possession of different people.

Re: Everay violet ray electro-therapy thingy
I'd think it's more about the tension than the current. Do you have way to measure voltages in the kV range?

Re: Everay violet ray electro-therapy thingy
It jumps about 12mm from a flat surface of the glass instrument so probably 30-40KV.

Re: Everay violet ray electro-therapy thingy
I'll dig mine out and see what spark I can draw from it for comparison.

Re: Everay violet ray electro-therapy thingy
What was it for?
I mean, what was it's intended use? Some sort of medical electro-therapy that doctors believed was effective a long time ago? Any chance of a picture of it, please?

Don't experiment with these if you have any sort of heart condition.

... or the donor is a beneficiary in your will!
Actually, in most cases other than as described by Paul, these are relatively benign, because the high frequency at which they work. And no, I haven't forgotten that I said I would dig mine out to see what sort of spark I can draw.
