Re: Best hand power tool for Bakelite polishing?
Precisely. And like all sensible people would likely approach the task, a bit of practice on scrap Bakelite until the technique is mastered is the way to proceed.
As some may remember I also fabricate components out of Bakelite and this is where the power polisher will come in most useful. It will help me shine up those surfaces and edges which have been cut and/or sanded to shape. Nick. |

Re: Best hand power tool for Bakelite polishing?
WRT my thread "Back to Basics" in Domestic Radios on the 15th - thought I'd have a go at the Revophone's bakelite mounting plate with my small Dremel & the softest of rotary pads. I'd firstly gone over it with Farecla 6, then no 10, with kitchen roll paper.
Actually, it didn't shine up too badly. However, I used just half speed setting & applied very little pressure. Mind you, the crystal set is probably 90 years old, and the Bakelite's surface was quite scratched & faded. So, Nick, perhaps using nothing more powerful than a Dremel could be considered for small areas of Bakelite or veneered Ebonite. By the way, the Dremel & it's selection of wee brushes is ideal for polishing up knobs & shafts, and terminals. Regards, David |
