Default Tannoy Cheviot

Hi - a mate of mine has acquired a pair of Tannoy Cheviot speakers. The binding posts are strange - I have never seen these before.

Does anyone know if these are specific to Tannoy or if there are generic connectors available?

I have seen a set of Tannoy Spring Clips For Cheviot on eBay but £20 and there's only one set.

I could change the binding posts but I think its best to keep them as they are.

cheers

Dave

The red and black plastic screw down binding connectors are missing. You'll see a hole through the metal spigot (big enough for 79 stand) to take the speaker cables. They are secured by the parts that are missing. Try calling Tannoy. they are really helpful.

You'll probably find a 4mm plug will plug straight in to the post centres.

The posts will be threaded on the outside, for the missing black and red plastic 'thumb nuts' to screw on to. You might find a metric nut (about 5mm or 6mm) may fit?

It really all depends on whether form or function is the issue.

Two short bits of 2.5sq.mm. wire soldered to the stubs with heatshrink or a rubber sleeve over and a two way chocbloc would sort function without being irreversible

OK - cheers for the replies guy's

I assume the fittings are propriety Tannoy.

I think I might just fit new standard posts for banana plugs for him.

cheers again

I don't think they're unique to Tannoy. My mate has some Acoustic Solutions speakers with the same type of connectors, in fact, come to think of it, I've got some Denon/Mission SCM51's with them on so I wouldn't have thought they'd be too difficult to locate new screw-on nut/collar type things for.

Regards,
Paul

I have Tannoy Cheviots and they have spring push in type connectors.

Whatever you do, do not use them! The wire hole is about 1.5mm diameter and they are totally useless. I got rid of them and fitted a set of Chinese gold plated binding posts that also take a 4mm spring pin. Total cost was A$4.50 post free from China.

The tinny connectors aside, these speakers are capable of superb sound!

It's a good idea to take the crossovers out and clean/lubricate/re tension the switches.
