Philips 4520 sticky vu meter
one of the vu meters on my Philips is a bit erratic or sticky. Is it possible to either lubricate the bearings or slacken them off to make them more responsive. Is it worth the risk because as it is not that bad at the moment. Anyone tried it before and were they successful or is it best to leave them alone.
Thanks Jim |

Re: Philips 4520 sticky vu meter
Hi Jim,
I have a similar issue with a JVC cassette deck, where one of the VU meters sticks when it warms up. To be honest, there isn't much you can do with these small VU meters. Often they are glued together and are not designed to be repaired. In any event, it is imperative to keep lubricants away from the pivots of any moving-coil meter. Your best bet might be to locate and fit a replacement meter. If you post a photo, someone on the Forum may have one.

Re: Philips 4520 sticky vu meter
His There, problem solved. On closer inspection it was found that the needle was being caught on the illuminating bulb in the vu meter. removed the cover and pressed the lamp out of the way and now , all ok.
