Default Sanyo G3001: belt replacement

I cannot remove the turntable to be able to replace the belt. Can anyone tell me the secret? It will not simply come off like most other turntables. I've tried WD40. There is no visible split pin securing it. Could there be a slit pin on the underside? I can't see or feel one. Thanks if anyone has experienced this before and overcame the problem. Bill
