Default Russian Cokoa PN 210 Transistor radio.

Picked up this little Russian transistor radio at the weekend amongst other things at the Beaulieu Autojumble.

Boxed GWO including instructions / guarantee card/circuit diagram £2.
Works fine MW LW and is circa 1991 and stamped 1992 on the guarantee card.

Unusual little find .

My knowledge of the Cyrillic Alphabet is not gread, but I do know that the Cyrillic 'C' = the Western or Roman 'S', and I think their 'k' = 'v'. Maybe another member can transliterate the model name correctly for us? As for the radio it looks typical of an earlier era, possibly 1960s or 70s, but an interesting find nonetheless!

So; This radio is either a Falcon, Hawk, or Mortarboard!

Falcon - you'd hardly call a rocket a mortarboard.

Maybe less confusing to just call it a sokol without translating.

Nice!

Its styling reminds me a bit of the "military/walkie-talkie-lookalike" LW/MW/FM radios (usually green, sourced from Hong Kong or Taiwan) that were popular here in the 70s and 80s.

You must have read my mind as that's exactly what I thought it was when I first picked it up , a walkie talkie.

RM has an entry on this radio, with the documentation:

No, but the space shuttle's were jokingly called "The Flying Brickyard", and isn't there an American airline that uses the call-sign "Brickyard"? I think I'll stick to "Speedbird".

My alternative translations for the word 'Cokona' (sokol)were taken from the item in Fernseh's link in post #4. I'd not heard to shuttle described as a flying Brickyard, though!

I know the Indianapolis 500 circuit is known as the brickyard because it used bricks as the surface of the track, maybe the airline in question were based in the city.

The surface of the space shuttle was fitted with heat proof tiles, which might be another reason.

As for the radio, Harvard had a series of military themed radios in the late 1970s.
