What set is this?
Hi all,
Have recently picked up this nice set - has a small Philips badge on the front, but can't find model numbers on it. Any idea which one it is? Thanks, Ralph |

Re: What set is this?
It's a 1937 Philips model 785AX 'Monoknob'. Looks in good condition apart from the glass (easy to fix). Good find.

Re: What set is this?
Marvellous. Thanks for that.
Not come across the Monoknob idea before, so looking forward to getting to know this set. And I will need to try and find a good image of the original glass so I can make a replacement...... |

Re: What set is this?
Hello,
you can look for more information using the term "Philips Aachen". Decent design - and the Monoknob idea was very innovative then. I think there were even TV sets "Grundig Monomat" taking up the idea of using a multiple-axis control device. Regards, Joe |

Re: What set is this?
Possibly an export version though? - the 785AX I have got (somewhere!) uses a different valve series , like this one

Re: What set is this?
This is a very interesting site for repro parts for Philips and other European vintage wireless sets. He makes dials and backs.

Re: What set is this?
Thanks for the extra info guys, much appreciated.
I'm in the Republic of Ireland, so maybe that counted as export....... And thanks for the bendijkman link. Very helpful. Don't think I could create a new glass myself for €20 - so brilliant. And the whole Monoknob idea is quite something - and it all still works. Mechanically at least. |

Re: What set is this?
Hi Ralph,
I think the set you have is a Philips Super Aachen D52 Monoknob using the side contact A series 4 volt valves. I also have one of these sets. Regards Trevor. |
