Windsor Model 65B - to buy or not to buy?
I've seen this RF generator in a junk shop today. They want £38 for it but can't tell me if it works or all bits are present and correct. Sold as seen. What does the forum think? Should I take the bait?

Sound a bit too dear to me, I would think £25 max would be more like it.
I do like Taylor/Windsor gear though, well built and easy to work on. Mark |

Too expensive, especially considering that it's operational status isn't known. They can be had for less than that in working condition.

They are superb signal generators, and even though I have several, they are the one I use most often.
At recent BVWS auctions they have been selling, working, for ten pounds of so. |

But to be fair, junk shop prices can't be expected to be as low as BVWS auction prices.
If you like it, go for it, but insist that they let you look inside first, to confirm that everything's present, and possibly do some basic checks with a meter too. And with a bit of haggling, they could well go down to £30. N. |

I have a spare one here, (kept in case the one from my father ever needed spares) and if you are prepared to drive to Bournemouth, you can have it for £10.
(NB, ouput socket changed from the 2 pin battery socket to BNC. Works but not checked for calibration). |

Re: Windsor Model 65b - to buy or not to buy?
Hi Alan,
Many thanks for the kind offer. I'd like to take you up on it if that's still ok. I'll be going through Bournemouth Monday evening (between 8 and 9 - not sure yet), and again on Wednesday afternoon/evening (flexible). Will you be around then? If so, would you PM me a meeting place? Thanks again! I'll PM you this as well in case you don't see it. Colin. |

Re: Windsor Model 65b - to buy or not to buy?
Just an update on this: I had the pleasure of meeting Alan on the Wednesday evening and seeing his vast collection of valves and other equipment - thank you again Alan, I found it fascinating.
The Windsor is in excellent condition and from what I can tell survived the ride back to Brighton strapped to the back of my rattly motorbike. I will be borrowing a modern calibrated scope from work soon to check its calibration. Does anyone have a schematic for this? |
