Default Decca Debonair - what type of batteries?

I bought a 1960 Decca Debonair at a flea market, simply because I liked it (I know nothing about vintage radios - I just love vintage stuff generally).

I read online that it requires 2 x 6v dry batteries, but if I search online for 6v batteries I see various options. Can anybody point me in the right direction, please? If possible I'd like a rechargeable option.

I'm attaching a pic of the radio's innards.

The original 6V batteries were PP1 type, only available from specialist suppliers at fairly eye watering prices..... £10+.

Your best bet would be to use a couple of 4-AA battery holders with suitable "press stud" connectors (which are readily available, either as such or robbed from a dead PP9 battery).

Rechargeable AAs are readily available as are cheap alkaline ones.

If you want to go for Chris's idea of using the two 4 × AA holders and are unsure how to go about connecting them, put a post in the services wanted section and someone experienced who lives locally may be able to offer to help.

...or buy the bits and then take them and the radio to your friendly local Repair Cafe

(the parts will be available on somewhere like www.amazon.co.uk)

Thumbs up Re: Decca Debonair - what type of batteries?

Thanks for all the advice There are no Repair Cafes in my area that deal with this type of thing. But I think I can see what I need to buy - something like:=

Something like that will work as long as you can fit the battery holders in the space available. You might check dimensions of the 4 along side each other holders as well.

The set linked does handily have matching connectors for the holders which could be substituted for the existing larger type connectors.
