Info needed about model 20 projector
Can anyone give me any info about a model 20 projector, serial no:20400, found in old store? Seems to made by a Kershaw and Sons, maybe sold by G B Kalee Ltd. Has Westinghouse rectifier, serial no:36404610.
Any info on the item would be greatly appreciated as nothing is known about it. Thanks. |

Re: Info needed about model 20 projector
Yes, the Kalee 20 is a slightly smaller version of the Kalee 21 35mm sound projector. It's a good machine, a bit noisy though. It's very solidly built and has oil bath and sump lubrication. There's provision for carbon dioxide injection along the film path. Originally it was intended to be paired with Kalee Universal arc lamps, although President arcs have been used, and of course the ubiquitous Peerless Magnarcs will also fit on the back.
The Westinghouse rectifier - is this a high current item (60 amps or so), in which case it'll be for the main picture arc lamp, or is it a small 5 amp unit, in which case it'll be to supply DC for the sound exciter lamp. A. Kershaw of Leeds did make the projectors, which for some reason were branded Kalee. They were used in Odeon cinemas for a long time, until they changed their allegiance to Cinemeccanica. There was also a range of Kalee Duosonic amplifiers and loudspeaker systems. The amplifiers were nothing outstanding in terms of circuitry, but they were very well built and did not skimp (such as using a separate output valve to drive the projection room monitor loudspeaker). Photos would be great! |

The KALEE name is derived from Kershaw, Abram, LEEds.
