"Phantom" Signals Unit WW2 - GHQ Liaison Regiment
Am interested in technical wireless data relating to the Phantom Signals Unit during WW2.
Specifically photos (ideally colour) of the M3A1 White Scout Car with this unit showing the wireless fit out, and any installation manuals, technical documentation which is related. I believe the following radios may have been used - WS52, WS22, R109. Any info would be very welcome. Many thanks Tim |

Just a question hope not OT,do you have an R109? Desperate for a picture of model/serial number plate on the front as mine is missing.

I will see if I can sort out a photo of the data plate over the weekend - however, I am suprised that a Google Images search wouldnt find the data you want. Tim |

Re: "Phantom" Signals Unit WW2 - GHQ Liaison Regiment
I remember reading a library book on Phantom many years ago, the sets mentioned were WS11 in the early days replaced by WS22 around 1942, the actor David Niven was also apparently a member of this unit.

Obviously you will need to think of a new serial number!
Hope you can scale from the photo - given the position of the holes - if not, I will go and measure the plate on mine. Tim |

The Ultra Secret Phantom Sig Unit was established in 1939 and would have used a large variety of radios up until 1946. Many were probably specials made at Waddon Hall or other covert units.

Look up "GHQ Liaison Regiment" in Wikipedia and note that the M3 A1 Scout cars and carried an R107 Receiver, 52 and 19 sets.

More to be read at ..... http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/newsle...tomsignals.pdf. Does anyone know about or own a 1 set or 11 set? Perhaps they found their own since it was written in 2004.

I've been looking out for these sets for a while. The Royal Signals Museum has examples of course. Outside the RSM, there is one WS No.1 in private hands that I know of. There are only 3 WS No.11s in private hands in the UK that I know of. I refer of course to the British manufactured originals - the Australian copies are more numerous. Richard |

Re: "Phantom" Signals Unit WW2 - GHQ Liaison Regiment
I have had two W.S. 11 tuning dial/mechanisms that were both turned into rather elaborate VFO's, so I assume some quantity must have been butchered for parts in the postwar period?
One is currently in the bits box, the other has since been passed on. Robs
