Re: Bendix Washing machine
Ah yes Rolls, the Amstrad of white goods.
They worked well until they did'nt!! So cheaply made that you had to be careful lifting them to avoid lacerations. As a "yoof" I well remember delivering both Bendix and AEG machines. They were both heavy, even for two people, but you tended to "fit n forget" them as they were so reliable. Twenty years service was reckoned typical at the time Nick |

Re: Bendix Washing machine
Funnily enough, Mrs. Beobloke's first house contained a Bendix washing machine left by the previous tenants that gave her great service. It was one of th emodels features in the "Quiet Reliability" advertising campaign that showed a baby asleep in front of it when it was operating.
Sadly I think hers was past its best as it was impossible to hear yourself think when it was spinning due to the incredible noise it used to make. We finally replaced it when the neighbour in the terraced house next door but one away from us made a comment about it! |
