Default Help me identify this?

Hello everyone,

I'm new here and I come with some questions regarding a Radiogram that I have inherited from an old family friend who sadly passed away.

He was a collector of vinyls, and had two Radiograms in his home (both appear to be in fully working order), but one of them (the one I have specifically) I don't seem to be able to find any information about what so ever.

Here is what I know -

Its a Murphy A907 SR;
It has a plate at the back (top of piece) with some numbers and letters (Serial Number?)

It has a stereogram (amp) inside, as well as a turntable.

It looks quite old but I couldn't tell you when/where/what.

I will attach some pictures and would be greatful if somebody could assist in identifying what I have here.

Thanks All!

Mark

It looks very similar to the Bush SRG140, the service info for the Bush SRG140 is available here:

Late 60s transistor stereograms like this used to be completely valueless only a few years ago - you'd have had to pay someone to take it away. There is a lot more interest now as a result of the vinyl revival. A transistor stereogram will be more reliable than the more fashionable and expensive portable record players like Dansettes, and will sound much better too. The only drawback is the sheer bulk, but that may not be a problem for people who like that late 60s / early 70s styling.

Hi All<

Thank you for the replies; The system works fantastic, there doesn't seem to be any issues with general use, it could use a good cleanup (re-varnish maybe?), audio quality is fantastic (slightly crackly).

Any estimates on the age?

I don't have any service info for it, but the styling suggests it's from 1969 or 70. That is getting towards the end of the radiogram era - by the 70s, low end customers were buying "music centres" with separate speakers, while high end customers were buying proper hifi systems from people like Quad and Leak.

Ed Dinning says in the last post here that the Murphy A907SR is the same as the Bush SRG191.

The Bush SRG191 is on radiomusium here.

It's the Murphy clone of the Bush SRG191: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...gram-454897276

Radiomuseum suggests it's from 1970 which fits with my guess.

Deck looks like a bog standard BSR C123. Red sticker below will confirm, if you are curious enough!

Hi All,

Many thanks for the help.

There isn't a red sticker below the deck or the actual piece, however I can see that it is a Murphy's version of the SRG191, it's definitely a lovely piece to have (in my opinion), just a quick one (for a vintage radiogram newbie); where would be the best bet for spare needles etc?

It's all working fine and I've had it checked and everything seems to be original (right down to the wiring), but obviously there comes a point where things may need to be changed.

Cheers

Hi If that is a teak cabinet I wouldn't varnish it, just use some teak oil on it which will bring up the shine

Spare styli can be found from an online search - but rather than let us guess, what type of cartridge is fitted? It might say something on it like BSR SX6M.

I used to sell those in 1970/71 when I worked as a Saturday boy in the Co-Op, Woolwich!
