Grundig Satellit 1400SL Professional
Workshop radio packed up on all AM wave bands. FM was working ok. I got the schematics from the internet. After 30 minutes of sticking all 8 sheets together I opened removed the back (Just 3 screws under the set) I discovered the aerial wire was not connected, it had broke away from the push on connector. Some how the wire was shorting the coils out on the AM PCB. When wire was re-attached the set works well, 2 minute repair, even receives DAB stations??
While the back was off I decided to repair the broken switch, the little lugs had been broken before I got the set. I made two steel staples and melted them into the plastic. Not pretty, but it works, BTW the white is super glue not sure it will do any good. John.

Re: Grundig Satellit 1400SL Professional
Nice one John, those bits of plastic are a pain.
I notice that some of the Grundig's have a problem where the clear plastic tuning dial/display hazes over, this doesn't seem to affect the earlier one's for some reason. I have one made in Portugal that has gone bad.

Nice easy repair, that's what you want. Complex sets like these can be a nightmare when something serious goes wrong.

Any one know what the white wire inside the the case is for? It ends 20mm below the badge shown. It is connected to the two neg wires of the speakers so I expect some sort of screening. I was listening to DAB stations while taking the photos yesterday, The little radio on top of the set has a homemade TX inside it and puts out the DAB on MW through the single blue wire placed near the Grundig in #1 John.

Mine is also made in Portugal, I have included a picture of the SN. While taking this picture I discovered that the set is missing a small cover I presume for cable storage. I have many various Grundig's of this age and younger, plastic is not a problem, I wonder if they have been cleaned with something reactive years ago. My main problems with Grundig's are the tuning capacitors and hard grease making stiff or impossible tuning of the set. John.

You can't beat these big, solid state Grundig sets for sound quality. 'Bass' was their trademark tone.
