Propagation up
A quick note: As of now, the morning Saturday 30th May, sporadic 'E' propagation is really up with 11m, 10m and 6m all looking lively. 4m is full of broadcast stations. The event may even be reaching up as far as 2m, so dust off that SSB mode switch.
(I'm always frustrated when I hear, after the event, that there has been a good opening). |

Yes, here in north yorks, I have noticed that this morning. It seems to be improving as the day goes on.

Re: Propagation up
I have my Kenwood TS-50 ticking over on 10FM at the moment and there's still quite a bit rolling in.

Re: Propagation up
I received what I believe was RAI Radio 1 from Umbria on 87.6 MHz at around 8 a.m. today for around 30 seconds. There is another Italian language station broadcast on the same frequency from Adelaide in South Australia - I doubt that would make it to the UK though, even with exceptional propagation conditions.

Re: Propagation up
Yesterday afternoon, I spotted that my venerable 'Woolworths' FM-with-RDS (also DAB) radio was showing a station ident of 'Antena 1' on 87.7 MHz. This tracks back to an RDP transmitter in Portugal, listed as 'Mendro'. Further research comes up with:
"Serro do Mendro: The Mendro Hill separates the Baixo Alentejo region from the Alto Alentejo and is located in the limits of the districts of Évora and Beja, between Vidigueira and Portel" I've tried to find its exact location on Google Earth but no luck with co-ordinates thus far Guy

Re: Propagation up
Would this be FM radio from Eastern Europe?

Re: Propagation up
The CQ WPX cw contest has been marvellous this weekend, non stop sporadic E on 10m from dawn to dusk and beyond both days.

Re: Propagation up

Re: Propagation up
Monday 1st June shortly before lunch, seeing a wide FM signal (broadcast) waxing and waning on about 69.860MHz. Conditions are probably up, or about to be, on 4 metres. Already well up on 10m with several continental repeaters coming in on 10FM.

Re: Propagation up
Listening via Hack Green on 4M, there are lots of commercial radio stations drifting in and out.

Re: Propagation up
Yes, there's lots of activity around 28.3-28.5MHz; yesterday I took my 'spare' PRC320 into the garden only to find that its NiCd battery hadn't survived the winter well despite regular charges from a 'proper' charger [not a DCCU!]. So I had to get the old car-batteries out!
In the afternoon I worked several German/Italian stations using just the 320's standard 8-foot whip and a couple of 8-foot-six counterpoise-wires laid out on the lawn. This morning I worked a couple of German mobile-stations; now I'm hearing plenty of Scottish stations (including some 'rare' islands - I guess the IOTA people will be enjoying themselves) and a Norwegian one or two. Amazing how far you can get with 30W of SSB when the E-layer is helping out. |

Re: Propagation up
69.68 is always the first to come in here, it's R Brest (Belarus) from the Brest tx
The tx also has programmes on 70.91, 71.69 and 72.47, all 6kW but these are not so strong here Next to come in are usually other Belarus followed by Ukraine and the nearest bits of Russia I just love this band

Re: Propagation up
Massive amount of Scottish stations coming in on 11m mids and lows yesterday, rendered the channels useless for any local chat for most of the day.
Oddly enough though I could not make any contact with my friend in Limerick on 10m, or 20m bands. Mike |
