AP Studio B on Film
The film "Train of Events" shown this evening on Talking Pictures has a few scenes that look convincingly like the Alexandra Palace Studio B control room post war.

Re: AP Studio B on Film
Have just watched this film tonight (Sunday). As it was made in 1949 I am inclined to agree that the studio shots could well be genuine from the AP studios.

Re: AP Studio B on Film
This was a very good British film. Great shot of AP aerial with bright lights from top floor offices.
The studio monitor in one shot looks like an HMV 1805 with it's white knobs and side preset panel but I think it only had three. The Bush TV2 comes to mind but the knobs in that case are brown and I don't think AP had any of these. The 1949 film date would closely match both of these. John. |

Re: AP Studio B on Film
Apologies for the quality of the images. I have it recorded on my Virgin set top box and I just snapped a few frames with my phone (handheld).
I see the Studio B Control Gallery had been renamed Control Room No.1 The images on the monitors looked convincingly real too so perhaps some frame synching had been arranged. Peter Last edited by peter_scott; 26th Nov 2018 at 10:44 am. |

Re: AP Studio B on Film
I thought the same thing. They do look genuine. A lot of care has gone into these AP shots. The receiver is not an HMV 1805, only three knobs. It has a very HMV look about it.
Possibly a monitor version? very interesting. J. |

Re: AP Studio B on Film
That three knob set is a real mystery John.
I liked the night time view of the mast and offices too. I'm away from home for a week or so but might try to put it on YouTube when I get back as it was a bit lost as single frames. Peter |

Could it be a Cossor 902? J.

Re: AP Studio B on Film
The 902 in Jonz site seems to have four knobs.

Re: AP Studio B on Film
The usual set up was Volume, Brightness, Contrast and Focus. It has to be pre 1950 but cannot think of anything with that 3 knob configuration.
The Bush TV1/2 may fit the bill. [I think it was a Rank film?] The right hand almost square side preset panel on one shot looked like the HMV 1805! The Bush is rectangular. The knobs on the film do look a bit odd. Maybe a bit of brand disguise. The picture certainly looks genuine. Amazing amount of TV detail here considering it is not actually much to do with the film. I'm going to hang my anorak up! John. |

Re: AP Studio B on Film
I'm sure it looks like it has the nasty front extension of the 12" Bush TV2.
The white painted knobs look like the ones in the photo of a Bush TV12 in the TV11/TV12 manual (they never did issue it with white knobs!). Cheers Andy

For those who missed the film here's a rather poor clip (from my phone without a tripod)

Re: AP Studio B on Film
It's as though the producer was indulging himself, taking the opportunity of documenting the operation at AP before everything except boring news moved to Lime Grove.
He certainly succeeded. I particularly liked the uniformed Zoo-keeper, shades of Desmond Morris and the one accompanying Lulu the Elephant on Blue Peter.
