The older RS darker Red Screwdrivers
I still have many of the older deeper Red/ Burgundy colour screwdrivers I used to buy from RS up to the mid 90's and they are all still excellent to this day.
The later ones they sell are a lighter colour red. Does anyone know who used to make the older one's? I do have some made by Richmond albeit a different colour, they look very similar. Cheers |

Re: The older RS darker Red Screwdrivers
Don't think they were made by Philips. It describes the size to fit the crosshead screw.
Not the different spelling - PhiLips, as we know them as electronic manufacturers etc, and PhiLLips the specifier of the screw size. |

Farnell used to sell virtually identical screwdrivers with black handles branded Spiralux.

Always thought they were Footprint, like the GPO screwdrivers that last equally well.

Re: The older RS darker Red Screwdrivers
I always thought they were made by C&J Hall Tools. The picture shows my RS (branded) set purchased in the mid to late 80's.
I remember Halls doing screwdrivers, hand reamers etc. with the exact same red handles back in the day, when I worked for BT Factories Division, but they don't seem to show any on their web site currently as far as I can see ? Many of the screwdrivers issued to BT engineers were indeed made by Footprint but they tended to have clear yellow handles as I recall. Jerry |

And readily available SH / damaged from a stall in the cut, Waterloo, for pennies - just find a friendly BT chap to take them to stores for free exchange.....

Re: The older RS darker Red Screwdrivers
I recall they also did a set of interchangeable shaft screwdrivers that offered hex sockets as optional extras?

Re: The older RS darker Red Screwdrivers
I remember those RS brand screw drivers being superb. I still have a set in daily use and they are still almost like new. I always buy them when I see them at car boot sales etc. In my opinion the flat blades are just as good as SnapOn screw drivers that I also buy occasionally
