Kontron 6001 counter/time. A time traveller from the 70's.
Recently a time traveller from the 70's has landed on my bench.
A Kontron 6001 counter/timer made from 100% TTL and capable of up to 100 MHz. It has been sent into hibernation due to a tantalum bead that had shorted its power supply. Although it is working again now, I cannot figure out all the functions available, so a manual would be quite handy. The internet has not washed up anything useful so far and I know the search is going to be cumbersome, but hope dies at last... |

Judging by the front panel picture on radiomuseum.org it looks like a fairly standard counter/timer of that period. If you can't find a manual it shouldn't be very dificult to work out the function of each control.

Sure, the instrument is not overly complex, but for example I haven't worked out what the coaxial knob is doing exactly.

Rotary controls are usually for adjusting the triggering point so it can cope with different signal levels, try adjusting the input level and adjust the control to get a feel for it.

Can you post a picture of the front panel showing the panel legends clearly? The radiomuseum picture is a bit dark and fuzzy in that area. There is a position on the switch labelled "Period AVG" (average) so I would expect to see a way of adjusting the averaging time or number of averages.

It's about the inner knob on the right side which refers to the resolution scale.
I haven't checked its function in all the measurement ranges. And also the 'EXT. PROG' function is miraculous. |

Is the inner knob a variable control or switched?
"EXT PROG" almost certainly stands for external programming and will remain a mystery without the manual!

It's a switch and the scale is blue "10s 1s 5 6 7 8"

Then I would expect it to increase the number of averages in period avge or time interval mode by x10 each step. The displayed resolution should increase and the update rate will decrease, both by a factor of 10 each time.

Re: Kontron 6001 counter/time. A time traveller from the 70's.
I found out: 5-6-7-8 scale selects the number of displayed digits, i.e. the resolution.
10 means 10s of counting interval, but I haven‘t got what the ‚1‘ is exactly good for. As all ranges use 1s measure interval. Thanks for your suggestions. |
