Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Hi. No luck still blows fuses. I have given up with this. What is the voltage rating of this replacement? where does the earth connection go.On the switch what side are live and neutral connections. There is no markings on switch to tell you.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
In the meantime may I point out that a switch, per se, doesn't have Live & Neutral connections. A double pole switch is essentialy two seperate switches in one housing, thus either pole can be used as the live connection. What you must not do is is wire the Mains Live and neutral leads to the same pole. This will create a short circuit across the mains when switchd on. This will certainly cause the fuse to blow. (Apologies if I'm stating the obvious)

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
How do you send attachments?.The back of the switch with 4 tags is marked F D and C A. The three other tags are numbered 1 and 3 the middle tag is not numbered I presume it is 2.Is this the wiper tag.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Oh dear-no wonder it's called the challenge It's possible you are out of your depth here Hodbodd. I see you wanted a wiring diagram with the switch [p37*] it doesn't quite work like that. Your struggles with this replacement might indicate that you need to take a step back eg you should be able to work out the switch settings using the resistance setting on your meter but you've not got there yet [it seems]. Less haste-more speed. If you do send photos that still applies [especially if you plan to take up vintage restoration as a hobby

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Is that the original switch or the new one?
Is the player the same one which featured in this thread? https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=139984

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
I was going to change the post Graham but thought I might as well leave it in anyway. Please alter anything you think may be inappropriate but I am trying to offer support [not just to the op either].

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
It looks like there's been attempt to open that pot up, if it's the pot that has four switch contacts then the photo doesn't tell us much, need a clear close up end on view of the switch showing its four connection tags.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Let me have a last try.
A potentiometer with an attached double pole switch will have two sets of tags. The three tags nearest the shaft are the potentiometer tags and you solder wires to them in the same order/orientation as the original tags were wired. The four tags furtherest from the shaft are connected to the switch poles and there is no fixed layout for these. In the absence of a specification for the switch you will need to work out which tag is which by using you meter on ohms or continuity range. Turn the switch on. You will find a low resistance between each of two pairs of tags. These are the two poles of the switch. If you turn the switch off you should find that the resistance has risen to infinity. Arbitrarily call the tags A and B for one pole and C and D for the other. Connect the incoming mains Live (Brown) wire to tag A. Connect the incoming mains Neutral (Blue) wire to tag C. Connect the wires going to the motor to tags B and D. Connect the wires going to the mains transformer to tags B and D.

How can the mains transformer an motor be attached to the same tags?

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Am I correct in thinking that the original mains lead had red and black wires that were connected to the outer tags of the switch?

If why, then both the motor and transformer require a 230 volt supply.
