Braun PCV4 Portable Record Player
Hello
I have a vintage (circa 1961) Braun PCV4 Record Player which does not have a mains plug fitted. The mains cable has 2 x wires but neither are colour coded. Does it make any difference which of these cable is connected to Live or Neutral on a UK 3 pin plug? Thanks Alan |

Re: Braun PCV4 Portable Record Player
The Radio Museum site shows that this player has a mains transformer, so there's no danger from a live chassis.
https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/braun_pcv4.html Personally I'd wire the live side of the mains to that side of the double pole OFF/ON switch which is connected to the internal fuse. That way if the fuse blows, with the set powered up, the minimum of components will be live.

Many thanks for your response. I followed your advice and connected my PCV4 to the power socket via a UK 3 pin plug. However, although the valves 'lit-up' the turntable doesn't turn. From the link you provided to Radio Museum, it would appear the turntable 'lifts-out' somehow... any thoughts/advice. My PCV4 was last used in my younger days (40 years ago) then stored at my parents house (in dry warm conditions) until I recently retrieved it. I would like to bring it back to life, although I must admit to being an amateur in such matters. Regards Alan |

Re: Braun PCV4 Portable Record Player
Sorry Alan, but I have no specific knowledge regarding this player.
There are a few threads on this site from other PCV4 owners. They may be able to help.

This may help, you can download the service manual from VinylEngine free of charge but you'll have to register first (also foc) Here's the link: https://www.vinylengine.com/library/braun/pcv-4.shtml It will be a PDF file and you'll need the latest Acrobat Reader prog. The 4 page manual is in German but the Circuit Diagrams and Layout Diagrams do show the figure of the Motor and you should be able to work it out. The last page, page 4 will be the best to follow.
