BBC Bargain Hunt. 700 type telephone.
Here or "WEBSITES".
Yesterday, there was a red base 7x6 with a white handset and dial facia plate on there. I'd have put this down to cannibalism of some sets. And then, Tele was described on market a 706, but looking at it, I'd have said it was a 746. Anyone see it and comment? |

Re: Bbc bargain hunt.
It looked like a bog standard cream phone which had been fitted with an aftermarket red case - this is quite common as 'retro' buyers seem to like weird colours, even though they're not historically accurate.
I don't know enough about phones to say if it was a 706 or 746. |

Re: BBC Bargain Hunt.
Paul, from the front, I 'd say it was a 746, but I'd expect the Auctioneer to have read the underside label. To my mind, it was a 746 made up of parts. Red body, creme dial plate and creme handset.
To me, the give away was the creme button on the optional switch on the top. That was VERY 746. |

Original 706 had both coloured buttons and coloured 'dummy' buttons. Did it have a button or a dummy button? |

My memory of 746 buttons was that they had various coloured buttons. But last 746 I saw was when I still had hair |

Re: BBC Bargain Hunt. 700 type telephone.
I can't watch the programme in question as I don't have a TV licence.
746 buttons were clear, and more elongated than those on a 706, in the old days but are now available in colours. It's quite possible that the instrument under discussion is a 746 which has had a non-standard button fitted. The difference between a 706 and 746 is pretty obvious as the whole shape of the upper front is different, the 746 being more 'modern.' |

As the 746 above has a dummy, here's one with a button:

Re: BBC Bargain Hunt. 700 type telephone.
This was a repeat of an old episode first broadcast on 27 November 2015 and filmed in Builth Wells, Wales.
The telephone in question appears at approx. 16 minutes in and is a 746. It has a red case, white handset, white dial ring and white button blank. The "red" case is clearly the wrong colour, so this is a bitsa phone.
