The LS5/5f has been well received thus far an interesting design with 7dbs greater output at 20Hz than the standmount alternative.

My SA3s are working much better in my new room and sitting about 11 feet from them enables a better image spread, just found a copy of HiFi News / Record review June 1983 with a good technical review of them by Martin Colloms

I will hopefully be listening to a pair of Graham LS5/1 monitors, a design by Derek Hughes inspired by the BBC LS5/1A

I am currently listening to a pair of Graham LS5/1s.
I have owned a pair of the original BBC LS5/1AE which used the Goodmans C129/15pr 15" bass driver.
The main issue with the older design was consistency of the drivers. The non A suffix model used a Plessey 15" paper cone unit, which suffered from consistence issues. Both versions used the Rola-Celestion HF1300 tweeters.
I cannot comment on the performance of the Plessey against the Goodmans driver, but gather that the new Graham was based upon the original non A suffix design?

Now the proud and happy owner of a prototype pair of Graham Audio LS5/1s
Though not using an 8" bass driver, they are a two-way design using two tweeters and an amazing 15" Bass//mid-driver.
They certainly do not lack in micro or macro dynamics and have a balance which sticks rigidly to the BBC voicing ethos, but with modern dynamics and slam up there with the very best. They are especially good on natural and well mastered recordings, and their vocal presentation is really special.
I am mightily impressed by them and sing well with my Naim NAP250 (Olive series)
Hope to try a NAP 250 (dr) sometime in 2023
They are especially amplifier friendly, being an easy load, and they work very well with my performance tuned (by the designer) Orelle SA100 evo integrated amplifier, hence they will work well with the NAP 250 (dr)
Will post some pictures later.
Simon

n the end I bought a gently used Naim NAP 300dr, a wise move as it has great bass control and generates considerable deep and controlled rhythmic bass extension in room. Very happy ?

The Naim NAP 300 dr has settled in very nicely, producing a system sound with many of the BBC tonal characteristics but with modern levels of performance with great dynamics and timing

Hello,

Seeing this thread reopened has given me a reminder to get the bass drivers in the Rogers LS3/6 BBC Studio Monitor Loudspeakers sorted…

Terry.

I’m aware the power handing wasn’t that much in the first place; however, I feel the compliance of the LF driver suspension has been victim of age and struggles even with a 10 watt valve amplifier.

I’ll keep the original LF speakers as-is, for sake of originality and completeness, if I were to sell the speakers.

I did contact Stirling Broadcast a while ago regards a ‘modern’ replacement LF driver, which could handle a tad more power, however, I've not received a reply... So, any pointers of somewhere else to try for a replacement would be really appreciated.

Terry
