Pye P2000T Car Radio: Dial Lamps
Hi All, my first post on the forum so please be kind! I'm not a radio expert but I am a classic car-crazy person. Specifically my Jaguar Mark 2 saloon dating from 1966. I was lucky enough a few years back to find a restored model of the car's original radio on eBay - a Pye P2000T - which was duly installed. Unfortunately both of the dial lamps have since failed and I am trying, unsuccessfully so far, to source replacements. I have the original user manual which says the lamps are both "14v, 0.75w bulbs", [Pye] "part no 071969". I live in Malaysia at the moment while the car is in the UK so I've no way of removing the bulbs to check what type they are. However, from extensive research on the internet this 14v, 0.75w combination (drawing just over 0.05 amps each if my maths is correct) are simply unheard of! Neither can I find any references to the original Pye part number to help me. I've purchased the original service data from this site but that gives no more information than I have in the operating instructions. Can anyone out there help me to identify the bulbs required and where I might be able to source them please? I'm trying to attach a scan of the front page of the operating instructions in case that is of any help.....
Thank you in advance for any help! |

The attached diagram and notes from the manufacturers service manual gives an indication of the size and position of the lamps, which may help with working out what size and fitting they may be. The parts list does not give any further information.

Re: Pye P2000T Car Radio: Dial Lamps
From the description of the replacement technique in the service data I would expect that the bulbs are LES (Lilliput Edison Screw) types. The 14V 0.75W rating would certainly be consistent with this type as would the use of a piece of 4mm PVC tube as a removal aid.
They might be green coloured (some car panel lamps were) but that can be sorted if appearances are paramount!

Further to my last reply, these:

Re: Pye P2000T Car Radio: Dial Lamps
This eBay seller has 14V 0.06A MES bulbs which is close enough and should work fine:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MES-Minia...3bFZIcUptHwD8g Obviously don't buy anything until you can confirm the fitting style. Failing that there are plenty of 12V bulbs generally available with a suitable power rating which should also be ok. I once owned one of these radios. Bought it from a scrapyard and fitted it to my first car (old Mini). How times change. Alan |

From the 4mm sleeving point I think LES is more likely than MES too. Those from RS that Chris found look promising.

Agreed - LES seems more likely but best to check first.
