G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Hello All, does anyone know if the PCB is still available for the above project ??
I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone A Happy Christmas and hopefully a more heathy New Year in 2022. Last edited by Radio Wrangler; 24th Dec 2021 at 8:29 pm. Reason: Callsign fixed |

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Sorry I cannot help you find a PCB, but just out of curiosity, given that the design is quite old now, has nothing appeared more recently that is an alternative of interest? Dual-gate mosfets were so vulnerable, though admittedly, perhaps safe(-ish) in a GDO. Perhaps the (hopeful) availability of a ready-made board is the attraction?

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Best you could hope for is that somebody has an unused one in their junkbox.
The company that used to supply these (Ambit) is long gone. |

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Tony Bailey often receives enquiries about his projects, but has been out of amateur radio for more than thirty years.
It’s worth reading his statement, on his website, which he penned back in 2008: https://www.tonybailey.co.uk/g3wpo.php

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
That's the MK1 version John, MK2 used dual gate FET's in the oscillator section.
Paperwork below for the MK2. |

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Has anyone got the PCB layout for this on a pdf? I might have a go at doing a PCB in KiCAD.

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Hi
I have an unbuilt kit, not sure if it is MK1 or MK2, I can scan the PCB if that would help. Neil |

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
I'll sort it in the next couple of days, I'll have to get the wife to do it because the printer drivers don't like my computer.
Edit.... I've just unearthed the kit, had a look at the PCB and according to the info above it is a MK1 kit/PCB, are you still interested? Neil Last edited by Strawberry; 26th Dec 2021 at 4:00 pm. |

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Probably best to use the Mark 2 version. Thanks for the offer.

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Does anyone have any details about the Toko Polyvaricon variable capacitor used in the Mark 2 design. I only need the physical dimensions (ideally a data sheet or an actual part) but as much info as possible would be ideal (capacitance value of each capacitor, pin and hole spacing, overall dimensions etc). This is so I can make a PCB footprint for the PCB. Might require a few other details of other parts as I go along. Thanks.

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Here is a screenshot of stage 1 of the schematic so far. There will probably be a stage 2 and 3 posted later and then I will maintain radio silence to get the final checks done on the schematic (make and assign any footprints to the symbols, do a final check of the netlist againt the original schematic etc). Then I'll post a few screenshots of the PCB similarly. More later.

Re: G3WPO mk2 fet dip oscillator
Here is a screenshot of stage 3 (and near final stage apart from any tidy up and error corrections) of the schematic so far.
