SonyMHC 2500
I have a Sony MHC 2500 which I bought new about 35 years ago.
It has been unused for some time and upon resurrection it displays two faults. 1. When the CD deck is activated it sometimes take about 15 mins before the deck becomes active or shows any signs of life. 2.Initially the CD player accepts a disc and then plays without fault. Usually when the second disc is inserted the CD draw sometimes refuses to close or it closes and then opens again. If power is removed for about two hours the sequence of acceptance and the rejection starts all over again. When working the system is very good but the faults mentioned make it unusable for domestic use. Any ideas? |

Re: SonyMHC 2500
I would firstly check the power supply voltages are correct value and smooth, you may find a few dry capacitors, then replace the CD loading belt.
Service manual is here; https://elektrotanya.com/sony_str-h1.../download.html

Re: SonyMHC 2500
Good Morning John, I have replaced several suspect electrolytics and cleaned all the connectors. I have also cleaned the disc transport tray limit switches. The drive belt seems to be in good order.
The system appears to be working very well now, lets hope it lasts. Thank you for your advice. Regards Chris. |
